| In
2007, 6 students of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and
Nutrition of Laval University have created a cooperative society,
and named it ATI, or in full AgroalimenTerre International.
Awaiting official registration of their organisation, the
founding members have clarified its vision and mission. ATI
aims at the local and international development of a sustainable
and efficient agro-food sector, and to fight against any form
of poverty and human exploitation through the autonomisation
of the people. Hence its fields of action are situated both
in Quebec and elsewhere in the world.
In order to support this aim, ATI pursues four objectives:
1.
|
|
Promote
collaboration between the different actors of the agro-food
sector to stimulate the sharing of knowledge |
|
|
2.
|
Support communities
in their local agro-food development initiatives |
|
|
3. |
Become an important
agro-food development actor in the international development
scene |
|
|
4.
|
Support
and/or participate in participatory agro-food research
projects |
|
|
|
|
|
|
In the longer term, ATI would like to evolve
towards an international consultants' network, working in
all agro-food sectors. At the same time, the organisation
aims at the creation of "national cells" in several
regions of the world, as already is the case in Niger.
ATI
and ACECI are joining hands on the ethics dimension of agricultural
development projects and programs. It is in this framework
that ATI's Geneviève Laroche has been staying in Burundi
from 19 May to 20 August 2008 for a combined internship for
both organisations.
