OUR INTERN AUDREY DESCHENES IN TOGO
As a student in the Masters of Conflict Studies at Saint Paul University in Ottawa, Audrey Deschênes has gained significant field experience working in an intercultural context, and has traveled extensively to Europe, Asia and South America. This has provided her the opportunity to accumulate knowledge on intercultural relations. She graduated with a BA in International Studies and Modern Languages at the University Laval during which she had the opportunity to study one year at Universidad Nacional de Córdoba in Argentina
Her interest in different cultures led her to look at the reality of Quebec's immigrant integration program. She has conducted research on the subject and written several papers on the issue of cultural diversity and immigration in Canada anchoring it in the linguistic conflict in Quebec. She is also using her skills through active participation in various organizations focusing on cultural diversity such as Accueil-Parrainage Outaouais which helps receive and integrate immigrants and the Center on Cultural Diversity and Solidarity Practices (CEDISOL) as secretary of the board of directors. Finally, she is interested in refugee issues as well as community, cultural and international development, connecting them to ethics in international cooperation.
She is currently doing an internship in Togo for ACECI focusing on the mobilization and awareness raising of national actors including the women’s movement in the campaign to “Translate the MDGs into a model law on poverty reduction”. In Togo she is based within ROFAF - Réseau des Organisations Féminines d’Afrique Francophone, partner of ACECI and member of the Collective that carries the campaign.
