OUR VOLUNTEERS

Andrée-Anne PARADIS-JULIEN

Bachelor in modern languages with a minor in political sciences from Bishop's University, Andrée-Anne has completed two study sessions abroad, one in Chili, and the other one in Germany. In 2007 she did a summer job at the Quebec Ministry of International Relations, and is currently working to obtain a masters' degree in international relations at Carleton University. Her project focuses on the dynamics between public and social insecurity from the angle of police violence and poverty in urban settings in Brasil. Besides international cooperation and development issues, her interests include stakes as diverse as human and international security, immigration and the environment.

Emelyne VERNET

Enrolled at the "Institut Québécois des Hautes Etudes Internationales", I am presently finishing my masters' degree in International Development. My research project deals with Israel's policy, from the angle of house demolitions in Cisjordanie and Gaza.

Before that, I have been studying in France, followed by two internships, one in Switzerland at the UN and the other one in Palestine for a local NGO.

I'm very much interested in international cooperation issues, and in ethical stakes in North-South relations, as well as in international security issues.

Rima SLAIBI

Rima volunteered with ACECI for the promotion of the conference, and as liaison agent for the welcoming and hosting of the invited panelists. After finishing her management license in Lebanon, she is now preparing a masters' degree in international development at the "Institut Québécois des Hautes Études Internationales" of Laval University. She's interested in development projects in developing countries, especially in eveything that pertains to their identification, their monitoring and the study of their efficiency.

Annabel DEMERS

Holder of a bachelor's degree in applied politics from Sherbrooke University, Anabel presently completes her masters' degree in international studies (major in international development) at Laval University. Following a first cooperation visit to Peru in the summer of 2004, she returned the next year as a mentor. Anabel appreciates the contact with Peruvians and the discovery of a different culture. Her interest in Latin America brought her to Guatemela as a volunteer in 2005, and she will return there soon to do field research on the implications of fair trade for the coffee producers. .

Julie VALLEE

Working for her masters' degree in international development, Julie already obtained a bachelor's degree in international studies and modern languages at Laval University. Her keen interest for international issues materialised during numerous trips abroad, notably some study sessions in Sweden and Italy. Motivated and committed, Julie is fascinated by foreign languages and cultures, and is also interested in issues related to human rights and the environment. Finally, she keeps problems related to refugees worldwide close at heart, and she's studying the impact of climate change on people's lives.
